Karina Marandjian

  1. This work feels introspective and self-aware, similar to a Frida Kahlo self-portrait. The zig-zag rut in her chest and the clawed hands as well as the drowning red faces feel very painful. Is the sheet at the bottom of the torso for modesty purposes or to create an interesting texture? The dripping hand on the far-left portrait ties my thought process to the muddied figure’s hands, hinting that an action between these two took place before the picture….which makes me curious to find out the story behind the other two portraits. I would be interested to read an artist statement along with this work.
